Any

Just to prove a point, chapter 17 of the Book of the Dead, a long and very protracted text describing a series of religious doctrines. In his book David Bland raises the issue of the images 'subordination' to the text. This is an interesting and highly pertinent point and one which deserves greater consideration, but not now. It is however a critical consideration in the development of Illustration, there are below proposed descriptions of Illustration and Illustrative practice. Most of these descriptions relate to the image's [umbilical] attachment to text and the written word. This is ironic as most writing/alphabets are derived from images [or ideograms/graphemes].
So this is where we start, where 'it' starts, where we are saying it starts, as far as we know.
